This is just a brief insight as to how I was chosen to become one of the thirty five Scouts in the Kent Contingent. It started when my Scout leader, selected me and three other scouts from our troop to go to the qualification weekend to represent our group. The weekend was held at Buckmoore Park under canvas. When I arrived at the campsite we were split up into patrols of people that we had not met before. We then pitched our tents, unpacked our bags and got ready for a fun packed weekend.
During the weekend were observed to see how we worked together in our new teams and as individuals completing a range of tasks, from making flag poles to pitching tents blindfolded with only one person directing the rest of the team.
At the end of the weekend the number of scouts was reduced from thirty six to six, going through to the next round. I being one of the lucky six. I then took part in a interview where, over a period of two hours the Scout chaplain and five other independent adults interviewed me. All six Scouts then left not knowing who had made it because the interviewers had to stay and make a decision.
That evening when I was at work, I recieved a phone call from my parents telling me that the District Commissioner had phoned and wanted me to phone him. So I phoned him back and he informed me that I had been successful.
